Youth, Good Health & Well-Being

Exacerbated by the pandemic and social unrest in 2019, mental health issues are prevalent among university students and youths in Hong Kong. For low-income young people who have emotional distress, their needs for support fail to be addressed by current public services due to the long waiting lists for public sector care and the high cost of private sector care. Therefore, there is an inequality for those on low incomes to receive quality mental health services. In view of this inequality, we wish to create a free online de-stress platform for young people, to help them relieve stress.
In September, we launched HeartlineHK, a free, peer-to-peer, non-judgmental listening service that operates from 7pm to 5am every night, through an online texting platform and a hotline. We hope (1) to address the emotional issues among adolescents; (2) to achieve early intervention and prevention, and (3) to promote emotional wellbeing and awareness on campuses and at schools.
To sustain our service, we will launch a de-stress marketplace on our website that contains products such as candles, essential oils and fidget cubes. Users who wish to browse for products to relieve their stress can find them on our website. Also, 100% of the proceeds acquired by the sale of these products will go into the operation of our listening service.
Does it work? Yes! To date, our volunteers have served over 600 users, with an average rating of 4.2 out of 5 in our post-service survey.
