Submission Requirements for All Contestant Teams of First Round

First Round Document

  • The Concept Deck and Executive Summary may be written in either English or Chinese.
  • The Executive Summary should be no more than five pages including appendices.
  • The set of documents should include the following:
    1. Concept Deck (6 slides) (i.e. six visuals about the problem, goal, solution, customers, value and market)
    2. Executive Summary (1-2 pages)
    3. Appendices (3 pages)
      • List of stakeholders with summary of their needs (eg: beneficiaries, collaborating units…)
      • Team Resume (i.e: relevant skills, contacts, and expertise that can accomplish your goal)
      • Lean Canvas
  • The whole document must be attached with the Cover Sheet and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Sheet as included in the template document, which are not counted in the page limit.

Semi-Final Document

  • The set of documents may be written in either English or Chinese and include the following:
    1. Concept Deck (12 slides)
      • 12 visuals with all the social venture model elements and financial summary
      • financial summary should answer the following questions:
        1. Selling price of your product/service
        2. Estimated sales per month
        3. Cost price of your product/service
        4. Setup cost of your social venture
    2. Executive Summary (1-2 pages)
      • Full written plan addressing the 9 areas mentioned in the First Round
    3. Appendices (3 pages)
      • List of stakeholders with details interview of their needs (eg: beneficiaries, collaborating units…)
      • Team Resume (i.e: relevant skills, contacts, and expertise that can accomplish your goal)
      • Enhanced Lean Canvas (more details in terms of practically and feasibility)
    4. (optional) Pitch Video ( ≤1 minutes)
      • moving image (e.g. video, animation, flash movie, etc.) with audio (VO / sound effect / music) around 1 minute attracting / enabling the audience to understand your whole social venture idea at a glance
      • upload the movie to YouTube and include the link in your document
  • Your document must be consistent with that in the First Round because it is the context of it that the Judges evaluated and recommended you to enter the Semi Final. Significant variations in the aspects such as business nature, focus and dimension from the First Round are strictly not allowed and may constitute disqualification to Semi Final.
  • Once your Semi Final document is submitted, modification is not allowed. Developments in your plan after submission shall be incorporated into your presentation but dramatic changes will undermine your credibility severely and limit your chance of winning the Competition.

Presentation

  • Semi-final teams will be assigned into four divisions and compete on 17 February 2024 (Sat). Eight teams will be selected as Finalists and compete on 16 March 2024 (Sat).
  • All members of each team must be present at the presentation. Any absentee from each team may constitute disqualification unless having prior written approval from the Organiser.
  • In general only those team members confirmed by each team before semi-final booklet production are recognized by the Organiser as being team members for the presentation.
  • Teams may present in either English or Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin). The Presentation may include audio and visual aids that the team considers appropriate.
  • Each team will have 10 minutes of presentation without interruption from the judges, followed by a Question & Answer session (10 minutes). It is not compulsory for all team members to speak in the Presentation, but each member is required to show up on stage and participate the whole event.
  • The presentation may include any audio and visual aids that the team considers appropriate. Judges may ask questions during the Question & Answer session using either English or Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin).
  • The Organiser will provide a computer with PowerPoint software and projector to assist your presentation. Any team requiring proprietary software and equipment to demonstrate their plan is responsible for its provision and installation.
  • Business Causal is the preferred dress code for the competition. You may consider designing and wearing your own team T-s should it be able to demonstrate the spirit and identity of your team.

Website

  • Hong Kong Internet Registration Corporation Limited (HKIRC) is sponsoring one year FREE dot HK domains and web hosting services to all Semi Final teams, in order to empower them to develop their own corporate web sites with unique domain names. The dot HK domain is a brand of originality from Hong Kong, which can also increase publicity and promoting social entrepreneurship globally. Therefore all Semi Final teams are required to create their individual websites for promoting their social business. Details of domain registration and procedures will be announced later.

Confidentiality and Intellectual Property

  • The authors of the social venture plan will retain all proprietary rights to the plan regarding its use at all times prior to and following the competition
    All contestants will be responsible for taking the proper steps to protect their intellectual property.
  • The Organiser, judges, reviewers, staff or the audience will not sign non-disclosure statements.
  • All public sessions of the competition, including but not limited to oral presentations and question/answer sessions, are open to the public at large. Any and all of these public sessions may be broadcast to interested persons through media which may include radio, television and the Internet. Any data or information discussed or divulged in public sessions by entrants should be considered information that will likely enter the public realm, and entrants should not assume an right of confidentiality in any data or information discussed, divulged or presented in these sessions.
  • The Organiser may make photocopies, photographs, video recordings and/or audio recordings of the presentations including the written plans and other documents, charts or material prepared for use in the presentations at the HKSEC. The Organiser has non-exclusive world rights in all languages, and in all media, to use or to publish the materials in any other medium.
