Trilingcal is a training group that targets non-Chinese-speaking (NCS) youngsters, to whom we provide job-related education with trilingual learning materials. With an operation mode comparable to Inno330, a social enterprise cafe that offers workplace training for people in recovery of mental illness, we strive to equip NCS youngsters with job-related soft skills, as well as the common job etiquette in Hong Kong’s predominantly Chinese-speaking workplace. We also hire NCS mentors to help us with co-designing customised learning materials, and creating learning videos that could help improve the learning efficacy of NCS students. Our training programme offers:
- Internships and job opportunities for NCS youngsters to enhance their job readiness, with complementary courses taught by NCS mentors, as NCS youngsters lack pre-job training to accustom them to Hong Kong’s workplace culture;
- Affordable Chinese lessons for NCS learners, as a low Chinese level is evidently linked to academic and employment difficulties for NCS individuals in Hong Kong;
- Chinese learning materials that are specifically designed with the help of NCS tutors, using the languages that are commonly used among the NCS communities. These materials will be used in courses such as Chinese enhancement, Manner Training, Pre-P1, and Pre-S1 Preparation, etc., as most pre-existing Chinese learning materials are not effectively designed to fit NCS students’ needs
- A sense of solidarity within the NCS community with the contribution from parent volunteers.
By providing the NCS community with Chinese learning resources that are culturally customised, and career-related soft skills that can help them excel in Hong Kong’s workplace, Trilingcal endeavours to ultimately promote empowerment for NCS youngsters in Hong Kong.
