NovelTEES is a social enterprise with a mission to reduce textile waste. In particular, we are keen to focus on used TEES. According to recent government statistics, 217 tonnes of textile waste was produced every day; most of which was not recycled in Hong Kong.

The challenge is to spread the belief of wearer responsibility and sustainability. This is why

NovelTEES collects, recycles and transforms old tees, into brand new products such as tote bags, cushions and knitting bags. We want to spread our message and this can only be great for the environment and the future of Hong Kong.

Production will be conducted through two main channels:

• Educational DIY workshops: secondary school students will be taught by university student volunteers to up-cycle old tees into cushions and tote bags. The school students will benefit much through learning about recycling and our responsibilities to the environment.

• Official production line: unemployed low-skilled workers can easily be provided with part-time or full-time employment by producing knitting bags, scarfs and rugs, etc.

Through the principles of wearer responsibility and sustainability, NovelTEES aspires to prompt reflection on the necessity of buying another tee. Through promoting the values of ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’ in workshops and products, NovelTEES looks forward to cultivating a common sense of respect to green life.
