語MEED: AI-powered Chinese Learning For Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) Students 語MEED is a social enterprise building practical Chinese learning tools for Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) students on the GCSE/GCE pathway. We combine a learning app with analytics to help students and teachers work together more effectively.

The Technology
For students, our mobile (web) app acts as a 24/7 tutor. It enhances students’ learning on the 5-skill framework (Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening and Vocabulary). For teachers, our LMS lets them upload a single PDF (school-based materials) and auto-generates exercises (learning modules) and extracts key vocabulary and learning points.

The Strategy
We focus on what NCS students need: solid exam preparation and individualised learning. Many NCS struggle with speaking modules as they do not get enough practice, their struggles are amplified as written Chinese and spoken Chinese differs. We aim to also help advanced, and beginners enhance their Chinese levels with curated learning modules which will help with integration in Hong Kong and Chinese culture.

• B2B: Annual school licences fund operations and R&D.
• Social Impact: Profits subsidize free access for adult learners via partner charities.

Key Highlights

The Problem
• The GCSE/GCE Ceiling for Careers: GCSE/GCE Chinese doesn't meet the entry requirements for many career paths, including Civil Service. Students’ conversational levels are not advanced enough to complete Interviews at local firms.
• The Home Gap: Students stop learning after school. Their homework often completed using Google Translate, students do not have the chance to practice Chinese at home.
• The Teacher Burden: School materials are not catered for individualised learning, advanced learners and beginners all learn the same material and some lack behind and some advance quicker.

The Solution
• Holistic Ecosystem: A synchronized LMS/MOOC, Student (Web) App that actually talk to each other.
• Gemini Integration: Uses Google's multimodal AI to create interactive, personalised learning modules.
• Career/Higher Education Bridge: Exam preparation content to help GCSE/GCE students excel in their examinations which open doors to universities  higher-paying careers.

Why Us
• We've lived this: Founded by ethnic minority youth who took GCSE/GCE Chinese ourselves. We know what works and what's missing because we've been through it. We continue to hear stories of students who struggle with the examination and we continue to hear students who wish to have more advanced learning modules.
• Market Entry: Running free trial pilots to gather real learning data and co-design the product with schools and students.
