Re:learn is a digital learning platform that provides an enhanced hybrid learning experience with self-developed immersive Virtual Reality (VR) educational solutions for both remote and face-to-face learners. With this platform, both learners and tutors – regardless of physical abilities – can interact in VR conditions from anywhere without any physical constraints. Through a series of offline workshops designed for disabled tutors-to-be, especially those who are wheelchair-bound, Re:learn trains and hires them as the VR developers or coordinators of our VR workshops, so that classes can take place remotely. Some of the previous workshops were co-developed with other social enterprises, thus fitting the requirements for both the local STEAM and Value Education curricula. The expected outcomes include:
- Wheelchair-bound talents can receive better job opportunities after 1) being equipped with highly transferable Web 3.0 digital skills through on-the-job training, 2) being enabled a flexible working arrangement that allows for remote working thanks to the nature of VR, and 3) having their self-esteem and confidence been gradually developed through teaching and interacting with others without psychological barriers, as suggested by the Chief Accessibility Officer of Ruh Global Impact.
- Local schools can have more feasible hybrid learning solutions that engage with students both remotely and face to face, allowing them to learn and interact with one another through gamified and immersive VR content without physical constraints. Studies show that VR learning can achieve a knowledge retention rate of 75%, in contrast to lecture-style learning at 5%. More importantly, disabled tutors can even serve as positive role models to students by educating them about disability and diversity.
