健康與福祉,長者服務

As the problem of ageing population continues to spread around the globe, swallowing disorders have also come under the spotlight as a more common medical condition in our society. Swallowing disorders have been a rising concern of the professionals working on elderly healthcare, since the associated diseases may not only lower people’s quality of life but even be fatal. Support is, therefore, the key to swallowing disorder prevention, which can ultimately safeguard quality of life, reduce medical expenses, and most importantly, ensure survival. However, the current system lacks the resources and manpower to provide regular rehabilitation services for people with swallowing disorders. Such services include swallowing exercises, which are known to be helpful in improving oral motor functions of at-risk older adults.

Besides, under the situation of the COVID-19 pandemic over the past few years, many clinical sessions have been switched from face-to-face to online mode. This suggests that the rehabilitation industry is becoming more adapted to the online approach under the new normal. Therefore, there is foreseeable trend of mobile applications being a more prevalent tool in assisting speech therapy.

Hence, the solution our team has created to minimise the impact swallowing disorders have on our elderly population is MotOral, a mobile application that assists speech therapists in providing at-risk older adults with preventive measures for swallowing disorders.  Fun and engaging exercises are also included in the application, so that users could train their oral motor muscles without feeling overwhelmed.

With MotOral, life is made easier.
