UKEI

Hong Kong has been well-known for its burdensome housing cost. While public housing usually takes too long to process, an estimated 226K of citizens chose to cram into subdivided flats that brought their tenants high social alienation, depression and suicidal risks. Some youngsters know about co-living but feel concerned about the reliability, match of personality and lifestyle and the liaison with landlords.
In light of such health inequality from HK’s housing conditions, we hence created UKEI (Cantonese pronunciation of “Home”) - a geo-networking app that matches flatmates with flatmates, tenants with landlords, in dating-apps-like fun processes and with the aid of big data and psychology-backed Artificial Intelligence (AI) analysis. On UKEI, tenant users can conveniently match with each other by borrowing the science of valid psychology tests that surround extraversion, conscientiousness and other attributes, all tested to be most relevant to co-living. Our deep-learning mechanism, via repeated exposure, will then learn each user’s preferences and deduce the best matches for them.
On one hand, we nurture the confidence in co-living among young working professionals, local tertiary education students and non-local students who seek for shared-living at lower cost, independent yet comfortable lifestyle or short-term living. On the other hand, UKEI equips landlords with versatility to rent to grouped tenants instead of entire families, as well as big data insights for retargeting. Through building trust among these parties, UKEI ultimately aims to promote a healthy co-living culture, ultimately helping the younger generations secure quality housing, with reliable buddies, at more bearable cost.
