Smart Braille Labeler

Back

社會科技,社會共融

The number of blind and visually impaired people in the world is set to triple by 2050. Even though efforts from across the eye health sector have led to a decrease in the prevalence of blindness, global trends such as an ageing population, general population growth and the rise of diseases such as diabetes means we are facing a new blindness crisis.

Of the 174,800 visually impaired people in Hong Kong, 13,100 only have a post-secondary education level. Unfortunately, the devices for blind people can also be prohibitively expensive, such as the devices used as a note and computer or smartphone display. “點字寶” (HKD12,000+). Also, a complete set of auxiliary equipment plus software can reach HKD60,000. However, a company who may wish to employ visually impaired people has no incentives to buy this equipment.

The Braille labeler can make labels in Braille to identify any item – a clear breakthrough in achieving all language inclusivity  by using its smartphone application integration and its all language-compatible Braille input method . Imagine how much more productive the visually impaired can be if they can identify items immediately and be liberated to contribute more at work.

Anyone will be able to input a sentence in any language and instantly turn it into braille. The labeler can also turn spoken words in any language into braille. Thus, the Braille labeler can break down the barriers between not only the blind and sighted people, but also the barriers between different nationalities.
