While you may have received 12 years of free education in Hong Kong, other people are unable to learn because of visual impairment.

REconnect, stands for “reading” and “connection”, our app provides a platform for blind people to use Cantonese audiobooks. We aim to not only let them widen their horizons, but also provide a gateway to them to connect with society.

Currently, 93% of blind people have an education level of below Form 6, which can lead them to have difficulties in society. Low education levels can lead to low interest in reading books.  Worse still, the process of borrowing audiobooks in Hong Kong is complicated and the number of audiobooks is limited.

As a result, REconnect specifically provides the below functions:

• Simple and entertaining content: current hot topics, fiction, lifestyles, culture and trivia
• Chat forums: with Social Wall
• Screen reading system: supports VoiceOver (IOS) and TalkBack (Android)
• Hearing impaired support: CHEARS樂聽 (for blind and deaf people)

We are going to hold workshops in NGOs to teach the visually impaired how to use our app. Afterwards, they can access audiobooks anywhere through a smartphone.
