Social Mission
Our social mission is to provide equal access to healthcare through implementing new cost-saving technologies. We
are proposing a new medical device called Mamosound to address the healthcare disparities associated with early breast cancer detection in Hong Kong.
Problem & Proposed Solution
Breast cancer is the most common cancer amongst women in Hong Kong and affects around 1 out of every 8 women globally. Women over 40 years of age are at a heightened risk of developing breast cancer. Currently, most women conduct breast self-examinations to detect breast cancer – by feeling for abnormalities or lumps. Unfortunately, this method has not been proven to be significantly effective in detecting breast cancer. Additionally, women from lower
income groups often do not know how to detect breast cancer early.
Our team of dedicated engineers and MBA students have applied design thinking methodologies and engineering principles to create Mamosound – a convenient and low cost medical device for early breast cancer screening.
Mamosound is a portable ultrasound probe that can connect to any smart device, and leverages deep learning algorithms to interpret ultrasound data. Mamosound also provides personalized health recommendations through our app-based platform. By performing routine Mamosound scans, users can detect the emergence of breast tumors and provide personalized health recommendations on whether a user should seek attention from an experienced doctor. By using Mamosound, users can decrease the number of unnecessary expensive hospital visits and healthcare professionals can improve the effectiveness of healthcare delivery.
