Wheel-life
A major problem in Hong Kong is that our society overlooks the plight of a silent minority – the physically disabled. This is likely to be one of the main reasons why the disabled are often marginalized and misunderstood.
Despite many awareness campaigns, many of us still do not fully comprehend the needs of the physically disabled. Since many of us have never lived our life in a wheelchair, we will never be able to really appreciate or empathize with the disabled.
To make matters worse, inadequate evaluations have been done on the life of the physically disabled and how inconvenient their lives can be. Unfortunately, this makes it more difficult to integrate the physically disabled with the rest of society.
“Wheel-life” aims to improve the lives of the physically disabled by raising social awareness and resolving the daily dilemmas they encounter. Wheel-life provides participants the chance to ‘experience LIFE in a WHEELchair’. This unique experience is the only way to experience the daily life of a physically disabled person. Also, Wheel-life encourages the general public to contribute to the people whose LIFE is in a WHEELchair.
Core service 1: “Wheel-life in City” – similar to an orienteering program, the tasks are designed to simulate the daily dilemmas encountered by the physically disabled.
Core service 2: “Willing to Build” – targets corporations and schools for team building activities. Participants have to acquire components of a wheelchair by completing various tasks and then using those components to build a wheelchair. The wheelchair built will then be donated to charity.
