GRPan HK is the pioneer in providing nonstick cookware (pans, pots, rice cooker inserts, baking trays) refurbishment services in Hong Kong. We refurbish worn-out cookware by respraying nonstick coating provided by Japanese manufacturer Daikin which is of premium quality. By doing so, we aim to extend the product life span of nonstick cookware by over 20% and prevent damaged nonstick cookware from being dumped into landfills directly, which may help reduce more than 90% of carbon emissions as opposed to purchasing brand-new cookware every time the old product wears out, as suggested by a study by Ellen Macarthur Foundation.
Hong Kong’s yearly consumption of nonstick cookware is approximately 1.5 million pieces, which shows no sign of decline due to the lack of proper cookware recycling facilities and the poor quality of cheap cookware available in the market. The continuous purchase of nonstick cookware from hotels, restaurants, and households increases a substantial amount of carbon emissions as the production of a new piece of cookware includes metal mining, large-scale manufacturing, packaging, shipping, etc. Hence, GRPan wishes to address this problem by localising the entire refurbishment process, from sourcing unwanted cookware from local households to distributing the refurbished products to local communities, thus largely reducing carbon emissions in the long run. To extend our social impact as a social enterprise, we also hire mentally impaired people from Yang Memorial Methodist Social Service to handle various procedures in the cookware refurbishment process.
