"Turn Trash into Treasure" - WaysOut Hong Kong provides young underprivileged mothers with training and job opportunities through upcycling household food waste into sustainable jewelry.
We are building an ecosystem that comprises 3 spectrums – (1) creating opportunities for young underprivileged mothers, (2) upcycling waste fruit peel and veggies into sustainable jewelry, and (3) creatively educating the public on food waste.
We have already recruited 5 young underprivileged mothers onto our Marvel Mami talent-training development program with job and training opportunities with flexible working hours. We aim to enhance their capabilities to improve their financial situations and also becoming socially active with the community. In the course of 12 months, we have provided a remarkable 500+ hours of training and social engagement. During this time, our Marvel Mami have handcrafted a range of sustainable jewelry and also taken up leadership roles in facilitating our public educational workshops and markets! Our Marvel Mami are obviously fully satisfied with the talent-training development program!
WaysOut reduces food waste, reduces pressure on landfills, but fulfills the market demand for sustainable fashion items and locally made products. Amazingly, in the past year, we have hosted more than 37 educational #TrashyTreasure Workshops in partnership with secondary schools, universities and other organizations, for example, Unilever, CUHK, the Methodist Centre, Yuen Long Merchants Association Secondary School, TECM.
Our #TrashyTreasure workshops and markets are also reaching out into the community, with over 1,000 individuals promising to take individual action towards sustainability – turning more trash into more treasure!

UKEI
Youth,Mobile App, 2021
Web Site: http://www.ukei.hk
Hong Kong has been well-known for its burdensome housing cost. While public housing usually takes too long to process, an estimated 226K of citizens chose to cram into subdivided flats that brought their tenants high social alienation, depression and suicidal risks. Some youngsters know about co-living but feel concerned about the reliability, match of personality and lifestyle and the liaison with landlords.
In light of such health inequality from HK’s housing conditions, we hence created UKEI (Cantonese pronunciation of “Home”) - a geo-networking app that matches flatmates with flatmates, tenants with landlords, in dating-apps-like fun processes and with the aid of big data and psychology-backed Artificial Intelligence (AI) analysis. On UKEI, tenant users can conveniently match with each other by borrowing the science of valid psychology tests that surround extraversion, conscientiousness and other attributes, all tested to be most relevant to co-living. Our deep-learning mechanism, via repeated exposure, will then learn each user’s preferences and deduce the best matches for them.
On one hand, we nurture the confidence in co-living among young working professionals, local tertiary education students and non-local students who seek for shared-living at lower cost, independent yet comfortable lifestyle or short-term living. On the other hand, UKEI equips landlords with versatility to rent to grouped tenants instead of entire families, as well as big data insights for retargeting. Through building trust among these parties, UKEI ultimately aims to promote a healthy co-living culture, ultimately helping the younger generations secure quality housing, with reliable buddies, at more bearable cost.

Tamee
Community, 2021
Web Site: http://www.tamee.hk
Tamee offers a PLATFORM to match newly listed HKEX ListCo with small-scale projects specified NGOs. This allows listed companies to directly sponsor UN-SDG audited projects organized by different NGOs. Companies can then include these certified projects in annual reports to demonstrate their commitment to ESG.
Social and environmental impact has become a growing concern. Also, mandatory reporting of ESG is now required by an increasing number of Exchanges including Hong Kong. However, corporates are also burdened by having to meet more standards and guideline restrictions in assessing the effectiveness of ESG reporting.
Furthermore, organizing events for ESG reporting is problematic. They are costly, time consuming, human resources dependent and have low credibility. Despite this, there is a growing need for ESG investment and ESG sponsorship – corporates need to be associated with ESG, especially for corporate branding.
To meet these needs, we have designed a one-stop matching PLATFORM for corporates to select projects for sponsorship. For each project that is submitted by an NGO or SE, we will review and audit them through our UN-SDGs certified auditor. Local projects can then be elevated to UN level and categorized according to different UN-SDGs.
As a result, by sponsoring these projects corporates can solve several problems: how to improve their branding, how to acknowledge ESG in their annual reports, and how to sponsor reliably audited SDG projects. Our PLATFORM will also provide independent reports on each project for corporates to use to acknowledge ESG in their own annual reports.

TalkTag
Minority Integration,Elderly, 2021
Web Site: http://www.talktag.hk
TalkTag is a low-cost NFC reader/writer designed for visually impaired persons (VIPs) to be used for audio reminders and identifying everyday objects. It allows VIPs to associate NFC stickers, which are cheap and can be stuck to many surfaces, with audio reminders set by the VIPs themselves. The reminder set will be played back when the device is simply placed in near proximity of the NFC sticker.
This has a wide variety of applications including assisting in the identification of sensitive personal items, especially those with similar shapes, such as cards in a wallet, to everyday items like books, CDs, and even medicine. This independent device has been developed with feedback from VIPs and so it includes accessibility features designed specifically for them. However, due to its simplicity, affordability and reliability, this idea has wider applications for other groups, including the elderly who may be suffering from age-related memory loss.
Interestingly, it is also easy to see how many existing devices can be improved by using NFC technology. This is because an NFC tag can be read/sensed from several centimetres away – a very similar process to using an “Octopus” card (a commonly used fast payment technology using in Hong Kong). This will bring a huge improvement in tag sensing performance, as it is easy to explain how to use our device. Finally, the concept of using NFC tags will become more widely used because they are rewritable and so new tags will be unnecessary for soundtrack modification.

"SENtoR" network is a social innovative platform in training up, pairing up and following up the tutors and interest class teachers in serving the children with Special Education Need (SEN). The tutors and interest class teachers would be working together with Speech Therapist (ST), Occupational Therapist (OT), Social Worker (SW) and Special Child Care Worker (SCCW) to provide outreach services for the people with Special Education Need (SEN), such as Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD), Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The project adopted a hybrid model of "T (Therapist) plus T (tutor)" to develop the competency of the tutors or interest class teachers in serving the people with SEN.
The name of the project “SENtoR” refers to “SEN to R (R for Rehabilitation and Resources)” and “SEN-centered tutoring and mentoring” as the purpose and goal. The vision of the project aims to create a nurturing and supportive community for the children and youth with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and their family. The mission of the project is to connect people with SEN and their family to the trained private SEN tutors and interest class teachers as the rehabilitation related resources in the community.

Planeteers
Environmental Friendly, 2021
Web Site: http://www.planeteers.hk
We at Planeteers envision replacing disposable cutlery with incrEDIBLE! - our 100% vegan, biodegradable, delicious and edible cutlery. If one is too full to eat it, it can be composted completely, enabling an end-to-end closed life cycle loop. Our beneficiaries include our well-known partner restaurants like Treehouse, Green Common, Swire group and Jardines, who are interested in replacing their cutlery with incrEDIBLE! So, diners will enjoy a better culinary experience, and central kitchens will be provided with an additional income source.
Technology has been the backbone for us to bring incrEDIBLE! to market. However, in order to replace single-use plastic and wooden cutlery, we had to offer restaurants an extremely competitive price of less than 50 cents/unit to entice them. We are only able to achieve this price by dramatically reducing the opportunity cost for our partner manufacturers to make incrEDIBLE! We achieved this by developing a proprietary mould design which cuts, moulds, and places 25 units of cutlery in the oven within one swift motion. Our design managed to slash production costs and allowed us to match the prices of single-use disposable cutlery!
The facts speak for themselves! incrEDIBLE!’s carbon footprint is 4.6 times less than bioplastic and 2.1 times less than wooden cutlery. By 2023, we project that we will be replacing 9 tonnes of disposable cutlery and in the process, manage to reduce emissions equivalent to planting 11,000 trees in Hong Kong! That’s incrEDIBLE!

PanopticAI
Social Tech,Good Health & Well-Being, 2021
Web Site: http://www.panopticai.hk
PanopticAI's award-winning camera-based health and wellness monitoring solution provides users with a holistic analysis of their health simply by using the camera of their smartphone, tablet, or computer. Users can learn about their physiological signs (e.g., heart rate, respiratory rate, heart rate variability, stress index, etc.) and get actionable insights from their own comfort and privacy within 30 seconds. By combining remote photoplethysmography (rPPG) techniques with AI computer vision and signal processing, our software algorithms extract a person’s vital signs by analyzing subtle changes in skin color due to blood flow. Accurate measurement of these core vitals enables further diagnostic capabilities such as fever, stress, cardiac and respiratory risks, and more.
PanopticAI’s unique value proposition is a contactless technology for the acquisition, analysis, and interpretation of health information that would traditionally require the use of a contact-based sensor. Although contact-based health monitoring devices have risen in popularity, they suffer from everlasting complications (e.g., costs, upgrades, charging, shipping, etc.). Our camera-based monitoring solution offers a more efficient and affordable alternative that directly improves the user's quality of life.
The company was founded by a multidisciplinary team of researchers and scientists spun-out of HKUST and are currently incubated at the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks. The team is committed to powering the next era of high-performance solutions with innovative technologies that are backed by academic research expertise in AI algorithms, advanced data analytics, and cloud computing.

Therapy,Education, 2021
Web Site: http://www.neuro.hk
“Neurodyssey” (心腦歷情) is a social enterprise aiming to promote well-being and boost the physical, cognitive and psychosocial development of SEN kids.
We developed the [友童感] Walk Along With the Kids program, a one-stop service platform for SEN families, especially for those in financial difficulties. The program starts with a neuropsychological assessment, then we customize the intervention program based on scientific data. We have developed a set of professional neuropsychological assessments and a tailor-made intervention program for SEN kids with expertise from Dr SIU (Team member: Dr SIU, PhD in Neuropsychology, specializing in neuropsychological assessment and intervention research on children with SEN for over 10 years). We are able to offer a wide variety of interventions supported by our registered therapist pool, including music, horticulture, brick-by-brick [formerly known as Lego Therapy]. We adopted a feedback mechanism to regularly monitor the progress on SEN kids and adjust the intervention program accordingly to ensure high effectiveness.
We have a good network of NGOs and corporates/financial institutions. We also keep a frequent dialogue with NGOs to fill their gap of services by offering our programs, then we pitch corporates/financial institutions for funding and leverage their financial resources to help SEN kids. Nowadays, many large corporate and financial institutions, all have a budget for Corporate Social Responsibility (“CSR”) and Environment, Social, Governance (“ESG”). Our program offering at affordable costs will fit most budgets.

Public Health, 2021
Web Site: http://www.layspace.hk
‘Without good mental health, people feel unable or less able to carry out activities of daily living, including self-care, education, employment and participation in social life.’ (SDG target 3.4)
90% occupants of inadequate housing suffer from mental health issues. An inadequate housing dwelling provides an average area of 6 sq.m little more than a bed, which may not even be enough for sleeping and is far from ideal to rest in. In fact, the lack of resting space is Hong Kong peoples’ daily life. Studies found that exposure to long term stress without sufficient rest may cause burn out. LAY designs space with multiple stress-relieving elements, such as sound, visuals and odour of nature, providing tranquility for users to relieve stress and in long term reduce risk of health issues. LAY focuses on early intervention to avoid the high costs of emotional therapy. With the previous prototype of designing a personal emotional haven, users’ subjective wellbeing has increased in 30% (from 6.3 to 8.2).
LAY Anywhere is being developed as a portable installation that can be easily deployed in different NGOs for the target beneficiaries, so that the service can be extended to benefit more people. It provides immersive, convenient breaks for the underprivileged that suit their availability. This is facilitated by using VR to break through the walls and immerse in a virtual and natural environment. Other technologies would also be applied to improve the effectiveness. LAY Anywhere would be deployed in the NGOs serving the occupants of inadequate housing. It is easy to install and demolish, without NGOs having to commit to assign a permanent space. It also reduces the costs of renovation.
Wellness should not be for those who can afford it only but for everyone. By providing the Personal Emotional Haven to users, the occupants of inadequate housing can relieve stress. As supported by studies this would reduce the medical cost to society due to long term stress of workers.

Kinnectus: Connect Us
Therapy,Education, 2021
Web Site: http://csnt.hk
Kinnectus is a matching platform that merges behavioral therapy with technology, to deliver a quality and affordable service for the special educational needs (SEN) community. Through Kinnectus, parents with SEN children can search and book assessments as well as find suitable Chartered Special Needs Tutors (CSNT) and community centres in real time for therapy sessions.
However, since the need for qualified CSNTs has often been greater than the resources available, the Chartered Special Needs Tutors Institute was established by Bridge AI to train parents and caregivers to become qualified Chartered Special Needs Tutors (CSNT) to conduct high quality behavioral therapy sessions.
To become qualified, prospective CSNTs will go through online training, practical role-play sessions, practicum training and computer system training. After attaining the qualification, CSNTs will be able to conduct therapy sessions for SEN children anytime, anywhere, further allowing them to reach their full potential.
The development of Kinnectus marks an important step as it connects qualified tutors and resources to create stronger communities and a support network. It does so by connecting the parents with SEN children, children with SEN, CSNTs and different community centres.
Kinnectus also increases job opportunities, income and allows a flexible schedule for people who are passionate in working with SEN children. Finally, Kinnectus increases the utilization of different community centres in order to serve the needs of the community. Through this support network, low income families with SEN children will be able to receive quality behavioral therapy at a much lower cost.

Invisible & Innovative Technology
Upcycling,Environmental Friendly, 2021
Web Site: http://www.invisibletech.hk
Invisible Tech is a tech startup under HKSTP & HKU iDendron, initiated by a group of HKU postgraduate students, which was also the 1st runner up winner of the 7th Hong Kong University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, winner of HKTDC IP Hatch Innovation Competition, and the awardee of the HKU MEICOM Tang Chui Wai Hing Project Prize 2020-21.
Invisible Tech specializes in research, development, production, and distribution of acoustic audio systems; and integrating waste wood into the materials. From our perspective, we aim to promote environmental protection and an eco-lifestyle by creating upcycled products. This because, recycling requires the destruction of waste in order to create something new, whereas upcycling takes the waste and creates something new - giving it a second lease of life. This is the idea behind our upcycled red wine box speakers.
The vision of Invisible Tech is to bridge the gap between technology and the environment, as they can both coexist and use our upcycled products as a catalyst to raise greater awareness of our natural environment. Finally, Invisible Tech is firmly committed to continually fostering a green and innovative environment in this digital era.

Homey Cafe

Web Site: http://www.homeycafe.hk
Hello, we are Homey Cafe! We are a social enterprise entrepreneurial team composed of a group of college students and we plan to open a social enterprise cat cafe within one year.
First, let us introduce what's behind our name. Homey - meaning a place that feels at home, comfortable and friendly. We hope to bring this feeling to all our customers, employees, and stray cats.
As a social enterprise, we would like to provide supported employment for young people with autism, so that they can have real work experience and improve their chances of employability. With proper training and the assistance of professional social workers, they will be equipped with different skills including making coffee, packing goods, as well as taking care of stray cats. This not only enhances their sense of competence, but also enables them to reintegrate into the free market and achieve self-reliance.
However, what makes us stand out from ordinary cat cafes is our social value. We would like to save stray cats from a tragic ending, so they can live a life with a happy ending. Through our business operation, we will provide the cats with temporary shelter and let more people have the opportunity to socialise with them. It is our ultimate desire to let people understand the story of each stray cat and help the right person find the right cat to live happily ever after!

Hollo – Mental Health, Articulated.
Hollo is a platform of clinical-grade Digital Therapeutics, driven by Behavioral Health AI to treat the mental health of chronic patients.
Chronic health is a leading cause of preventable death, accounting for 75% of annual deaths worldwide. In fact, up to 91% of chronic conditions lead to mental health conditions - which further worsens their chronic conditions. Patients that are depressed claim 2x more from Insurers, and cost Hospitals up to USD 16,000 more in their Cost of Care. With a large social and economic need, and lack of psychological expertise to resolve the issue, this calls for a digital solution (up to clinical standards!).
Our Treatments are gamified psychological training modules targeting depression and anxiety in chronic patients. However, our unique Behavioral AI personalizes these treatments using unique Biomarkers and healthcare data analyzed in our Patient app. This digital treatment can be easily prescribed and costs less than traditional Mental Health interventions, allowing: (1) Healthcare providers to lower the Cost of Care through integrated remote chronic management and treatment; (2) health conditions of patients to improve; (3) a clear Care Plan to be provided to Payers (Insurance or Pharma) with measurable impact.
We’re aiming to partner with Insurance and Pharma to distribute through hospitals, clinics, and telemedicine. Our doctors can trust Hollo to deliver better Patient Outcomes and better Treatment Adherence because our medical grade software is in the pipeline for clinical studies and approvals from the FDA and University Research Partnerships.

Heartline HK
Youth,Public Health,Community, 2021
Web Site: http://www.heartlinehk.hk
Exacerbated by the pandemic and social unrest in 2019, mental health issues are prevalent among university students and youths in Hong Kong. For low-income young people who have emotional distress, their needs for support fail to be addressed by current public services due to the long waiting lists for public sector care and the high cost of private sector care. Therefore, there is an inequality for those on low incomes to receive quality mental health services. In view of this inequality, we wish to create a free online de-stress platform for young people, to help them relieve stress.
In September, we launched HeartlineHK, a free, peer-to-peer, non-judgmental listening service that operates from 7pm to 5am every night, through an online texting platform and a hotline. We hope (1) to address the emotional issues among adolescents; (2) to achieve early intervention and prevention, and (3) to promote emotional wellbeing and awareness on campuses and at schools.
To sustain our service, we will launch a de-stress marketplace on our website that contains products such as candles, essential oils and fidget cubes. Ensemble!
Minority Integration,Culture,Community, 2021
Web Site: http://www.ensembledining.hk
The pandemic has caused a paradigm shift in Hong Kongers' means of food consumption and patterns of gatherings with family and friends. In the first quarter of 2021 alone, Foodpanda recorded a 60% increase in their number of users. Clearly, there’s an increasing demand for catering services. At the same time, travel bans have increased many locals’ and expats’ interest in tasting and enjoying international cuisines in Hong Kong.
Ensemble! sees these new demands as important opportunities that should be capitalised on to help increase income opportunities for low-income ethnic minorities, many of whom are cooking talents!
Ensemble! is, first, an international cuisine provider that works with chefs from ethnic minorities and low income backgrounds in Hong Kong, set out to meet foodies and food photographers’ demand for authentic, delectable international cuisine that appeal as much to the stomachs as to the eyes, camera lenses and Instagram followers; and second, a cultural educator and social inclusion advocate, who creates opportunities for celebrating and promoting EMs’ food cultures, and giving everyone residing in Hong Kong more chances to interact closely and mingle with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
By drastically scaling promotional efforts to make these chefs’ amazing culinary skills and personal stories known to more potential customers, we hope to bring more businesses and income to them, to facilitate cultural understanding and social inclusion between different ethnic groups.

CLAIRE Clinical AI Research
Public Health, 2021
Web Site: http://www.clairekoa.hk
Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a common degenerative disease with no cure, but affects 10% of the Hong Kong population. KOA also jeopardises mental wellbeing, as patients with KOA are at a higher risk of dementia and depression. Besides this, it affects mobility for social interaction and self-care, causing isolation and reduced self-efficacy.
Unfortunately, KOA is a complex disease and an accurate prognostic model is lacking. Furthermore, delayed diagnosis means that KOA patients miss the golden period to reverse the progression of the disease and may suffer irreversible damage to their knee joints. Therefore, the current flawed approach leads to poor treatment outcomes for KOA patients and hefty annual health costs of HKD 1.4 billion, both of which are largely preventable.
In response to the foreseeable ageing population, we developed a state-of-the-art AI-based KOA prognostic system for better disease management and a mobile application for patient self-management. The prognostic system will be implemented in different healthcare settings, e.g. our basic version of AI could provide KOA risk assessment and screening at the community healthcare centers with simple checkup procedures.
Our advanced version of KOA prognostic AI system provides detailed analysis on medical images, biochemical markers and electronic health records of the patients at the secondary healthcare. This system not only serves as a triage system for surgical planning, but also generates results to construct optimal and personalised therapeutic plans.
We also develop a mobile application to allow KOA self-management on the palm for the general public. The app provides quick AI-based KOA risk assessment with a short questionnaire and a novel video gait analysis that examine the users’ walking pattern captured by their mobile devices. Following closely to international clinical guidelines, the app also provides personalized health education on exercise and lifestyle modification. Users could also find suitable clinicians for help via our platform.

Care Bear
Youth,Mobile App,Public Health, 2021
Web Site: https://www.carebear.hk
Care Bear is a mental health early detection service. We match students with mild to moderate levels of depression through a gamified app. Also, our service alleviates symptoms of depression by utilising an accountability peer-support model.
Under COVID-19, mental health problems have become more prevalent - with 50% of students suffering from early symptoms of depression.
We will target the negative triad of:
1.Helplessness
2.Hopelessness
3.Worthlessness
We will detect and alleviate early signs of symptoms of depression by:
1.Transforming negative cognitions into positive thoughts
2.Reinforcing and building habits to break inhibiting cycles
By connecting people going through similar experiences, we can enhance their sense of community and mutual comfort. Also, since we will target secondary school students, we can focus on strength-based approaches that facilitate a process of working on attainable tasks, and more importantly, highlight the preventive nature of the service prior to the onset and diagnosis of mental health disorders.
Throughout the process, we will conduct empirical and vigorous research. The results will help to prevent clinical depression and provide a buffer against the problems of long-waiting time and high therapy costs. Our distinctive hybrid methodology of incorporating technology with a human touch will facilitate the gamification of data collection and lead to providing a highly personalised and authentic experience.
Our package is designed to promote transferrable skills and personal reflection, including perspective-taking, empathy, altruism, grit, self-esteem & efficacy and artistic development. So Bear with Us as we redefine mental health in Hong Kong and beyond!

archiREEF
Environmental Friendly, 2021
Web Site: http://www.archireef.hk
Coral reefs are at risk, and the ones we have in Hong Kong and the entire Greater Bay Area are no exception. The loss of this living ecosystem means a widespread decline of their associated marine biodiversity including commercial species.
archiREEF provides eco-engineering solutions for ocean ecosystem restoration. We aim to restore degraded ecosystems and mobilize Blue Carbon to achieve carbon neutrality. Our team designed the world’s first artificial reef structure 3D-printed in terracotta, being truly ocean-friendly, and integrates the biomimicry element to enhance coral survivorship and growth. The biomimetic pattern is aesthetically and being functional - with the function of enhancing coral’s survivorship and growth. Our reef tiles have been proven 4 times more effective in keeping the corals alive than the conventional methods.
The tiles were fabricated utilizing a six-axis industrial robot with a 3D clay-extruder attached that is based on a DIW method (direct ink writing). The project developed a unique fabrication method that balanced the tile's algorithmic design with the clay 3D printing strategy and the drying and firing procedures to minimize cracking and deformation. With the beauty of algorithm-based adaptiveness and 3D printer’s versatility, the design can be tweaked for different environments and even organisms like mangroves and oysters.
“We combat climate change by restoring degraded marine ecosystems using advanced eco-engineering technology - 3D printing.”

Kin Technology
Social Tech,Elderly, 2020
Web Site: https://www.kinhealthcare.co/
Kin's mission is to accelerate the safety and convenience in personal healthcare at home. Kin Technology was founded in late 2018 by a group with backgrounds in design, engineering and pharmacy, who wanted to improve drug-safety and reduce management inefficiency – so that monitoring, managing and taking medication can be as easy as a click of a button. We offer both B2B2C and B2C solutions in drug management, enabling exceptional service from healthcare providers, while also providing a more convenient way for anyone to continue their treatment at home.
Kin Technology offers an all-round drug management solution platform comprising of both hardware and software. We are developing an at-home pill dispenser, Kindo, that can automatically sort and dispense up to 12 different types of medication at the press of a button. The Kindo also includes a built-in light and sound reminder and the capability to sort medications into the Pillbox for takeaway. Our device simplifies the risky manual sorting and remembering of different dosages into one easy click.
Kindo also allows both users or caregivers to access the medication via the web/mobile app through IoT technology, anytime, anywhere. With just a few clicks, they can track adherence; and also modify or suspend medications. The five rights in drug management: right patient, right medicine, right dosage, right time and right administration is now made possible at home with the Kin platform.

King's Phase Technologies
Social Tech,Elderly, 2020
Web Site: http://kpt.com.hk
One of the keys to understanding dementia lies in knowing our daily diet. This is because there is a little-known link between dementia and eating disorders. Therefore, if we know the rate of how our bodies burn fat and the overall energy balance, we will have a better chance of early detection and early treatment of dementia.
The solution lies in sensing and knowing the amount of ketone bodies in our breath. Our semiconductor ketone gas sensor provides a ketone sensing capability in the range of parts per billion, which is over 1000X more sensitive than any currently available sensors.
The main problem with sufferers with early stage dementia is that they act as though they can handle all daily tasks independently. But then they begin to forget to eat. Caregivers might assume that people with minor signs of dementia simply have a poor memory, without considering the possibility of compromised ability to complete daily tasks such as eating and cooking.
Therefore, caregivers often neglect a dementia patient’s eating disorder until it has a serious health impact, such as a drastic decrease in body weight. Drastic decreases in body weight can then pose problems for health professionals to treat dementia patients with proper dosage of medication.
There are no existing products on the market that are tailored for eating disorder detection. However, King’s Phase Technologies is here to fill the gap make a change with our sensor “In The Know”.

InnoSpire Technology Limited is a social enterprise dedicated to using technology to provide visual assistance for elderly and visually impaired people. (We are also an incubatee under the Incu-App programme of Hong Kong Science and Technology Park.) Currently, we are developing the FIRST smart glasses in the world that can provide human+AI visual support to visually impaired people/elderly.
Firstly, for our smart glasses, an elderly or visually impaired user can wear them like normal eyeglasses, and our backend staff combined with AI can see things from the viewpoint of the user and provide instant support.
For our second main product is a mobile app that connects visually impaired people and elderly people to volunteers. When the visually impaired person needs help, they can make a call and a group of volunteers will receive call notifications. Then, the first volunteer who takes the call will be connected to the visually impaired user and can provide real-time video call support to the users in need.
By using our smart glasses or mobile app, the user can be supported by backend staff and or volunteers. Furthermore, by providing visual assistance to users in their daily lives, it will improve social inclusion and their standard of living.

Foster Worldwide
Youth, 2020
Web Site: https://www.facebook.com/fosterworldwide.hk/
Youth unemployment has become a worldwide phenomenon where many youngsters find it difficult to make the transition from school to work. With technological advancement, the labor market has been shaped into one which is more cost-conscious, volatile, knowledge-based and constantly changing. Young people with less work experience, job skills and career advice are more vulnerable to unemployment.
With an aim to solve this global social issue, Foster Worldwide has launched the first-ever Virtual Global Internship Program in Hong Kong. Youngsters will be offered an internship with an overseas company, as well as online vocational training and career guidance from Foster Worldwide and their supervisors. Upon completion of their internship, they will have not only a recommendation letter, but also an evaluation report on their work performance. Underprivileged students with outstanding performances will even receive scholarships.
Such a valuable virtual internship opportunity allows young talents to gain overseas exposure, equip themselves with future skills and extend the professional network in a much affordable and flexible way.
Since 2014, we have successfully collaborated with more than 170 companies from over 60 countries and cities to provide placement and training to 5000 youths worldwide to boost their employability. Our partners include corporates (Wluper – London (Forbes 30 Under 30), Strategy Sprints GmbH – Vienna (Forbes 30 Under 30), universities and NGOs – One Young World and United Nations Global Compact.
To take it one step further, Foster Worldwide strives to provide quality career education and virtual global internships and mentorship opportunities by leveraging educational technology.

DrugIconist
Social Tech,Elderly, 2020
Web Site: http://drugicon.cc
As there is a growing population of people who regularly take drugs, with the elderly commonly taking 5 or more drugs at the same time (known as polypharmacy), drug adherence and compliance have become greatly concerning issues. Unfortunately, current medication labels are often too wordy for patients to read, use small fonts, and only written in Chinese or English. Therefore, this neglects the needs of those who are less able to see, illiterate, or unable to read Chinese or English. As a result, the elderly and ethnic minority groups have difficulty reading and understanding medication and dosage instructions clearly.
The failure to understand medication labels can lead to devastating consequences. People’s health may be affected by not achieving the optimal usage of drugs or inducing additional medical burden such as causing adverse drug reactions and prolonging hospitalisation.
DrugIconist aims to create visual icons for common medical instructions and warnings in different languages, including Chinese, English, Urdu and more. Our icons make medication instructions easier to read and will reduce the difficulty in explaining medication warnings. This will go a long way towards increasing safety and accuracy in medication use. Also, we offer consultancy services for drug label implementation and provide promotional materials to facilitate the use and explanation of our icons. We hope that through designing drug icons, people can know more about drug labels and take the right amount of medication, at the right time and in the right manner.

Carbonbase is a HK-based climate change software company that helps individuals and corporates to measure their environmental footprint, reduce CO2 emissions, and co-create a better planet together. Our vision is to help Hong Kong reach its Carbon Neutral by 2050 goal by helping connect and reward businesses and individuals for taking climate action.
Carbonbase is building a technology solution ecosystem to align business and consumers to more emission awareness with increased resources targeted at solving the climate crisis. This ecosystem includes:
Carbonbase's larger goal is to help empower SMEs and individuals in HK have affordable actions to climate change. We help companies calculate and reduce their emissions, and facilitate them to receive green finance funding, helping them pass on their savings and services to the end consumer. Our two initial verticals are real estate developers and maritime shipping companies. In the long run, we want to build more transparent supply chain, where every product in the future will display its end-to-end carbon emissions, enabling more conscious consumption by empowering the citizens to align their purchase with carbon neutral goals.

Web Site: http://breer.com.hk
With Covid-19, all markets have been severely affected. The craft brewing industry, defined by innovation, has come to a standstill. Simultaneously, food wastage is rising due to a lack of sales. Breer is the one solution that solves both problems! We are a food upcycling start-up that uses surplus leftover bread from bakeries to brew premium craft beer.
Strongly believing in the motto that waste is not waste until you waste it, our initiative began when we learnt that all unsold bread in bakeries gets thrown away after closing. Shocked by the amount of food wastage, we decided to make a difference. In Hong Kong alone, 3600 tonnes of food is wasted every day. So, the experience of building a social enterprise that has a direct and tangible impact on solving a problem is very empowering. We have successfully developed the pilot batch ‘Responsibly’ and we got the opportunity to closely collaborate on getting the flavour profiles right, along with communicating our brand mission by designing a distinctive customer experience. After making various iterations, we are now ready with our first product – which we can’t wait to introduce to the market very soon!
This has only been made possible with the combined efforts of our team members, all of whom have a very unique personal background. Be it our academic or professional experiences, each of us lent a different perspective in terms of developing the venture, and that had made it a very enriching experience. This collaboration is a testament to the potential of today’s youth in making an impact.

Mobile App,Minority Integration, 2019
Web Site: https://www.techinnospire.com/
Visually impaired people, especially those of higher education and ability, do not want to be disconnected from the outside world or left behind. They want to live normal day to day lives as other people do, but need assistance from time to time. For example, they want to know whether the color of their shirt matches their jacket, identify the verification code on the computer screen when they need to sign in a webpage, or read the expiration date on food packages when they shop in supermarkets. In many circumstances, there is no one nearby to offer them help. They need help from people who are willing and available to support them.
There are many passionate people who want to be involved in volunteer activities, but they might not have enough time to do so. Conventional volunteer work requires people to devote half or even a whole day at a designated time and venue. As a result, these activities are not flexible. If there is a way that volunteers can help people at any time and place when they are available, it would make the activity much easier to join.
WeVoice+ aims to build a worldwide community consisting of volunteers and the visually impaired. In this project, a mobile app will be developed to allow visually impaired users to take pictures and send it to a group of volunteers, where available volunteers can describe the picture back to the user via voice message.

WeDerm provides integrated care for eczema patients: personalized, comprehensive, and guided with psychosocial support.
In June 2018, former CUHK nursing student, 23-year-old Pang Ching-yu, killed her parents and herself on Father’s Day. Her severe eczema and deep-rooted stress were the leading factors of the tragedy. Eczema is a painful skin condition which cascades from physical wounds to chronic mental stress. It affects 300 million people globally and Hong Kong is an infamous hotspot.
Today’s medical paradigm for eczema is problematic:
- Generic intervention leads to ineffective treatment
- Acute care mismatched for chronic conditions
- Lack of psychosocial support and health guidance
As a team of students with decades of experience suffering from eczema, we know best what it means to live each day to the fullest – and we want to bring this to everyone in the world. Our integrated care program combines first-hand patient experiences, professional evidence-based medicine, and a comprehensive network in medicine, pharmacology, psychotherapy, and nutrition.
Since no case is the same, WeDerm offers a comprehensive diagnosis for eczema, generating a multifactorial patient profile for personalized treatment. To drive sustained action, peer engagement is integrated for effective long-term recovery, highlighting that health is not merely the absence of disease, but a sustained and positive state of physical and psychosocial wellbeing.
Our motto naturally: for patients, by patients.

To make healthcare better and safer for all, UVify aims to safeguard against cross-contamination of medical tools and devices. Developed through design thinking, we are solving a real-world issue at the core of a global problem. Leveraging simple technology compatible with the existing healthcare ecosystem, we are a medical device start-up that began with a simple mission: engineering, optimising, and transforming healthcare tools at the crux of it all: lowering incidences of infection and safeguarding devices for protection.
Infectious diseases, especially those which are hospital-acquired, are an alarming global problem threatening population health and healthcare systems. These problems lead to longer waiting times and higher hospital occupation rates. Stethoscopes used by doctors are a major source of pathogen transmission. They are often contaminated and teaming with infectious bacteria. Shockingly, contamination risks increase exponentially after each clinic visit and there are also no universal prescription guidelines for sanitising stethoscopes – except through labourious manual cleaning with alcohol swabs.
Therefore, we have designed an automatic and portable UV-C light-based disinfection device for the medical staff to actively cleanse stethoscope diaphragms.
Our safe and flexible design features:
- Compatibility with all dimensions of stethoscopes
- Non-disruptive mechanical System for smooth rollout of diaphragm
- Non-cytotoxic skin-friendly and non-carcinogenic – unlike other UV lights
- Multi-pathogen inactivation of H1N1, MRSA, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Enterococcus faecalis

Summer Production
可能大家會問,Who is Summer?

Web Site: http://mindfultech.hk
Elderly people in Hong Kong are facing social isolation and increasing loneliness, which is an important Risk Factor (RF) for a great many non-communicable diseases (NCD), such as cancer, dementia, stroke, cardiovascular disease, diabetes. The lack or delay of mental health treatment can have many negative effects on individuals suffering from mental illnesses.
With the integration of AI, our SMART app (Sustainable, Memorable, Affordable, Real-time Therapist) can provide personalized recommendations based on a patient’s preferences and habits. Patients can access user-friendly, evidence-based tools and different treatment methods. Also, when the assessment result approaches predefined cut-off degrees, they will receive timely automatic referrals to registered psychologists.
Furthermore, our AI-backed chatbot enables speedy diagnosis of a patient’s condition and assesses risk levels, thereby supporting health professionals or users to administer effective and efficient treatment protocols.
The goal of SMART is to provide more mental health resources for those in need. The intention is not to replace human therapists, but to divert more of the mental health professional’s time to the treatment of mental illness. The shortage of mental health professionals in Hong Kong has made it difficult for those suffering from a mental illness to receive the treatment they need. Approximately 80% of the HK elderly population live in situations without enough money, time, or capability to obtain professional mental health treatment. SMART is an example of how Big Data and AI technology application in the mental health industry can have a significant impact on community healthcare accessibility.

Web Site: http://hearttoheart.hk
When facing mental issues, we understand it can be difficult to pour your heart out to others. In fact, when encountering adversities and mental issues, only 1% teenagers are willing to express themselves.
“Heart to Heart” is a meaningful lifestyle brand that connects people who are aware of mental wellbeing and the opportunities for them to take the actual step to care about others’ mental health. It is a series of gifts designed by people who have battled through mental health issues.
We start the conversation by admitting and expressing our own mental state. With our product, we encourage people to talk about their mental health, to take the initiative to care about others, and to be part of us to drive a positive and powerful change to society. We aim to overcome the stigma and misunderstanding against mental illness.
Heart to Heart is a brand of products, but we also aim to become a mobilizer in mental health advocacy. We aspire to combat the current misunderstanding about mental wellbeing by providing a true understanding through our online and offline campaigns.
We understand that mental issues are always a taboo that is so hard to admit and discuss. However, at the same time, we understand you care about mental wellbeing as much as we do. We stand with you in the face of negative thoughts. Join us and from the bottom of your heart tell others. Let’s TALK about mental health!

GrinBean is a profit-sharing ecosystem built around clean recycling. Our ecosystem links citizens, property developers and management companies, recyclers, and retailers. We aim to promote recycling, and provide reliable technologies that enable an accurate sorting of recyclables and contamination control at the point of disposal, as a solution to the low recycling rate and low recovery rate in Hong Kong.
The GrinBean ecosystem consists of recycling machines powered by artificial intelligence. We apply the concept of reverse vending to incentivize people to recycle through our interactive mobile application. Our pioneering recycling solution has the potential to be applied citywide, as an effective method of recyclable collection and to encourage green living. This can transform Hong Kong into a smart city in the aspect of waste management and recycling.

Free Periods HK

Free Periods HK is the only group in Hong Kong providing support to low-income women through the supply of free sustainable menstrual products. The group is supported by experienced individuals from Happeriod, MenstruAction, MissMaMa and M Cup M Stuff, 4 groups that highlight the issue of menstrual stigma in Hong Kong since as early as 2014.
We realise that in Hong Kong, there are menstruators (especially low-income groups) who lack menstrual health knowledge. As a result, in order to save money, they sacrifice the quality of the menstrual products they use or even intentionally reduce the frequency of changing for clean menstrual products. Unfortunately, using menstrual products beyond the suggested time of use can lead to issues with menstrual hygiene and various potential health threats.
Free Periods HK advocates a unique Buy 1 Give 1 distribution model of free sustainable menstrual products. We also collect public donations of money and menstrual products, organise menstrual education workshops and train menstrual education ambassadors. Through connecting menstruators from different social backgrounds and supplying free menstrual products to those in need, we set out to relieve the mental, physical and financial burdens on low-income groups caused by period poverty and raise public awareness on period poverty.

Dosha Woodcraft
Upcycling,Environmental Friendly, 2019
Web Site: https://www.facebook.com/doshawoodcraft
DOSHA Woodcraft is a local wood upcycling company. Our team includes 5 product designers and we will offer different types of furniture and home products for customers.
Our story begins with an upcycling project after the Typhoon Mangkhut DOSHA members tried to collect and produce new products with disposed wood. This experience proved that wood disposal can provide the raw material for production. Unfortunately, the wood recycling rate in Hong Kong is less than 1%. However, disposed wood can be the raw material for furniture making, thus reducing the demand for cutting down more trees.
Currently, the public has an understanding of green life and carbon footprint. At the same time, Hong Kong is a high-density city and everyone needs to optimize the use of the floor space in their home. Therefore, by designing "Lego Furniture", a series of DIY concept wood furniture, customers can meet this need by offering specific units for customers to create the stylish furniture of their wishes.
Flexible, eco-friendly, stylish and meaningful furniture is a great idea for people and nature. All wood has their own life and own experience, and everyone can save wood from being disposed into landfills.
From a broader perspective, DOSHA Woodcraft’s aims to save trees and increase the wood recycling rate in Hong Kong. At the same time, we hope our products will lead users to share the story behind the furniture and let our lives influence thinking and save trees.

WeCareBill
Public Health, 2018
Web Site: https://www.facebook.com/WeCareBill/
WeCareBill is an open database for patients to select medical services based on budget. It reduces patients’ fear to go private due to cost uncertainty: this simple step would reroute 3-5% public patients to go private, leaving more resources for needy and urgent patients.
It is basic patients’ right to know the cost in advance before they select medical services. However, due to the Code of Conduct imposed by the Medical Council, doctors are not allowed to publish the price of surgeries, causing surgery costs to vary in multiples for some extreme cases. Therefore, most Hong Kong patients have to pay for consultations in order to obtain a price estimate - unlike other countries with unified pricing or clear price lists.
Hence, a significant proportion of the price-sensitive, uninsured elderly population opts not to use private services, even though they can afford to do so. This poses burdens on our public health system, leading to the waiting time for public hospital to become longer, and directly affect our health. These unfortunate results also echo the report findings from Bupa in 2018: data transparency is a key to enhance the sustainability of the Hong Kong healthcare system.
The three social impacts we bring are:

Making a Difference – TheraTalk to ease communications in mental health counselling
In recent years, mental health issues have become alarming in Hong Kong. The waitlist for public services is so long that many people miss their optimal time to receive timely intervention to prevent the problems from escalating. However, alternative private services are often too expensive and inflexible.
TheraTalk fills the gap by providing timely, easily accessible, flexible and affordable psychological services with the use of advanced technology. We aim to become the biggest technology-based psychological services provider in Asia.
TheraTalk is a HealthTech start-up that enables people with stress and mild mental health issues to communicate with professional counsellors by text at any time of the day.
The service removes the stigma and inconvenience of seeking professional help in person. Users can choose to chat with dedicated professional counsellors or psychologists for regular, asynchronous feedback via text counseling. Alternatively, they can choose real-time counselling or in-person counselling. TheraTalk’s services are highly affordable, easily accessible, and users can choose to keep their identity anonymous. The company also offers offline, in-person counselling and wellness services for individuals and corporations.
In addition, TheraTalk provides bot-assisted mental health screening to help early detection and informed treatment and bot-assisted evaluation for effectiveness studies. We have also recently launched a free bank of resources for non-paying clients to enhance their psychological well-being.
TheraTalk was founded by an enthusiastic team with professional knowledge in psychology, counseling, technology development, business development, marketing and corporate planning.

AntzKnow: The Decentralized Predictive Think Tank
Every day, numerous thoughts emerge in your mind, but most are forgotten and wasted – not because they are worthless, but because we have not identified a mechanism to effectively use them.
AntzKnow is an online community for thinkers and a decentralized consultancy that uses crowd wisdom to analyze and forecast future macro-level events for clients. AntzKnow platform allows individual users to share info, opinions and forecasts for various predictive questions (e.g. Will China’s birth rate increase in 2018?). Afterwards, based on the real-world outcomes of the events, users are rated and ranked by their prediction accuracy, and gain rewards for accurate predictions. During the process, our proprietary algorithms aggregates individuals’ forecasts to generate a real-time collective prediction, which sciences prove to be more accurate than most individuals.
AntzKnow platform has two business models related to education and consultation.
AntzKnow enables individuals to monetize their previously fragmented, wasted individual brainpower, and creates valuable insights for clients. Moreover, AntzKnow cultivates critical thinking skills and promotes futurist awareness among students and the general public, thereby creating substantial social impact.

Animomo

Web Site: https://www.animomo.com/
Before I tell you about our product, I would like to ask if any of you have visually impaired friends? The answer is probably ‘no’. And for visually impaired people, can you guess how many of their friends are sighted? You might guess ‘none’ or just one or two and you would be right.
Unfortunately, while we have around 40 friends throughout our life, the visually impaired may only have around 10.
Hopefully, you can now imagine just how much our Visual abilities can enhance or limit our social life. It is also important to note that almost 80% of what we have learnt is acquired through vision. So, you can easily see how difficult it is for the visually impaired to interact with sighted people. But, don’t we all deserve a social life? Someone should do something to change the situation!
That’s why we have developed Animomo – an interactive story telling app with physical toys, that helps visually impaired young children to learn social skills. Unlike existing toys in the market, visual ability won’t be a competitive necessity to enjoy the game. Children can role play animals in an adventure story and make decisions at key turning points in the story. With Animomo, all children can play together and build the necessary social skills for a fulfilling life!

Void
Mobile App, 2017
Web Site: http://www.void.com.hk
Void delivers an affordable and sustainable mental health service. However, our difference is the multi-functional self-help mobile application. This allows Void to deliver mental health service anywhere and anytime - even within 15 minutes!
Void relieves stress through three main functions: Sleep Quality Improvement, Pressure Relief and Focus Training. Our service is based on the concepts of meditation, hypnosis and psychotherapy.
Void provides three main features:
- Relaxation game: based on the “Ji” concept in Taichi, the game guides users to reach calmness. It comes with a 4(inhale) - 6(hold) - 6(exhale) breathing rhythm, which has been proven to allow people to reach a relaxation state. Also, with the 3D touch technology, the relaxation game can perform pressure optimisation. Users can then reach a relaxed state before they hear the hypnosis recordings.
- Smart wristband: this integrates kinesthetic anchoring with our audio program to achieve an optimal effect. It measures body condition data (eg heartbeat and sleep quality), which users can then use to monitor their progress and improvement.
- Hypnosis recordings: after the wristband records the body condition data (eg heartbeat, force and duration of playing finger exercise), it automatically adjusts the hypnosis recordings for each user by using an adaptive model to match their specific needs.
We fill a huge void with an affordable and sustainable mental health service. Anywhere and anytime - even within 15 minutes!

Nature Bathing
Youth,Public Health, 2017
Web Site: http://naturebathing.hk
Nature Bathing addresses the problem of stress faced by secondary students in Hong Kong. The surging number of youth suicide and students suffering from severe stress reflects a serious social issue. Unfortunately, stress is not well-managed and schools often lack the time and manpower to help students cope.
By engaging students in outdoor workshops and experiences, Nature Bathing offers a solution to help them relieve stress and enhance their stress management skills. Inspired by the Flow Learning TM model and experiential learning through nature, these activities provide immediate stress relief and stress management skills. As students participate in outdoor workshops, day camps and overnight camps, they can establish a new network of friends – friends they can connect with before a crisis occurs. It is also expected that students are more likely to continue to actively engage in nature in the long run, as a way to control their stress.
From a broader perspective, the project offers a solution for schools to alleviate stress by engaging students with nature. The promotion of Nature Bathing programs will also increase social awareness towards youth stress and the benefits of nature for stress relief and mental well-being.
Nature Bathing intends to cooperate with strategic partners like Gaia Association, Principal Chan Free Tutorial World, Social Entrepreneurship and School Education (SENSE), Tithe Ethical Consumption and different corporates. We hope to connect around 150 secondary schools and 24,000 secondary students with our network, and ultimately create a change in our leaders of tomorrow.

Gense Technologies
Wearables,Social Tech,Minority Integration, 2017
Web Site: https://www.gensetechnologies.com/
Seventy million people in the world use sign language as their first language, with an estimate of up to 30 million in China alone. However, the deaf and mute population lack the means to communicate with non-sign language speakers in daily life, resulting in challenges in integral parts of life such as securing employment and social interactions.
What if we could develop a device to give them a voice to speak?
Gense is developing a real-time sign language to voice translator wristbands and smartwatches. By simply putting on two wristbands, users will be able to speak in sign language as normal and communicate with anyone through a wearable speaker.
How does Gense Labs technology work?
As your hand moves, the inner biological tissues including muscle groups, tenders of your wrist changes with different hand gestures.
Gense wristbands contain multiple electrodes that contact your skin around the wrist. Through procedural stimulation and a back-projection process, a bio-signal web can be constructed to form a live dynamic bio-image. Gense detects hand gestures through bio-image reconstruction and recognition with machine learning algorithms.
Who are Gense Labs?
The technology is developed by a team of five entrepreneurs with academic backgrounds from Cambridge, Stanford, HKU and HKUST. The team consists of two Ph.Ds in bio-medical engineering specializing in human imaging, an electronics expert with experience working in Huawei, a software engineer in cloud computing and machine learning, and a dedicated entrepreneur.

Body Activation
Public Health, 2017
Web Site: http://www.bodyactivation.hk/
Problem
Around 1.5 billion people worldwide are suffering from chronic pain and this imposes tremendous costs on patients, employers, and the health care system. People suffering from chronic pain are less able to exercise properly, to sleep normally or to master their daily life successfully. It leads to a vicious cycle of depression, helplessness, guilt, and increased preoccupation with pain and created multitude of negative behavioral responses like restricted activity, sleep deprivation, and social withdrawal.
In Hong Kong, it is estimated that 35% of adults suffer from chronic pain and the highest prevalence are those in the lower income groups with monthly income below HK$ 15,000.
Current treatments for chronic pain are simply ineffective (The Lancet) and painkillers proved to potentially cause toxicity, gastrointestinal bleeding, and renal failure.
Solution
With 5 years’ experience in practicing origin point medicine (OPM), Body Activation was developed to automate the
proven OPM acupoint massage to relieve body pain using an effective, non-invasive and drug-free therapy. Body Activation is a service machine located in publicly accessible places using the affordable pay-per-use vending concept to provide hassle-free, easy and fast therapy to relieve body pain for users in private. All elderly people will get a special discount on their Octopus card to relieve pain and improve quality of life. As the main concern for a public machine is hygiene, the system will be maintained by elderly employees, who will also be Body Activation users.
When your body feels good, so does your mind. Therefore, pain sufferers, especially the elderly, will be relieved of their pain and regain their dignity to continue doing what they like in life. Body Activation, the best way for you to relieve body pain.

AfterSchool
Youth,Education, 2017
Web Site: https://afterschool.com.hk/
In Hong Kong, there are over 300,000 secondary students. However, in order to earn better grades in public exams, over 90% of them go to tutorial classes every day after school.
The tutorial industry has emerged since the 1990s. Unfortunately, in these 20 years, tutorial centers with ever increasing class sizes and tuition fees have done little to improve students’ learning effectiveness and there are no alternatives in the market.
That’s why we founded AfterSchool, an online learning community designed for Hong Kong secondary students. Our mission is to create a new learning system that provides students with a “Ten Times More Effective & Ten Times Cheaper” learning experience.
By uniquely combining learning science, gamification and social elements, we provide students with a highly personalised, flexible, effective and interactive learning experience at just 40% of the market tuition fee. Our community also allows students to learn at their own pace, interact with other students and discuss problems in real time.
AfterSchool will also create a channel for qualified tutors to publish courses and build a passive income stream.
All they need to do is to produce high quality learning materials. AfterSchool will provide the rest, including marketing, packaging and sales. Revenue will be split between tutors and AfterSchool.
Education is essential. AfterSchool creates a smarter learning ecosystem with unlimited possibilities for our future generation.

Peacify

Web Site: http://peacify.com.hk
Sudden Unexpected Infant Deaths (SUID) causes over 15,000 deaths each year – the major causes being suffocation and strangulation. These cases are often associated with incorrect sleeping positions where the babies are found with their faces covered by a blanket or even found dead face down in the bedding.
Current prevention measures are basic. Parents need to wake up frequently through the night to check if their baby is breathing normally. However, as a result of frequent checking, over two thirds of parents report that they regularly lose 3 hours of sleep because of the stress and worries. However, we aim to provide a solution to relieve the pressure on parents and allow them to sleep better.
Peacify is an innovative wearable for babies. Our device brings medical grade sensing technologies into every household through an affordable and adorable baby sock. It is equipped with the most advanced biomedical sensors and algorithms to monitor a baby’s vital signs and then transmit the data to smart devices. By connecting to an app, parents or medical professionals can monitor a baby's heart rate, blood oxygen level, skin temperature and sleep habits at a glance. The device can also alert parents to abnormalities and rolling over.
Being a monitoring tool rather than a medical or diagnostic device, Peacify will alert parents to potential health-related danger signs so that they can take preemptive actions to safeguard their child.

Coins have been in circulation since 1863 in Hong Kong. While making transactions more convenient, coins have caused some problems and inconvenience. For example, coins are not easy to be paid out after the public receive change in a transaction, since many retailers do not accept smaller bills and the denomination of coins vary. Also, coins are heavy and easy to lose. As a result, we store a
large amount of coins at home. In addition, retailers also need a store of coins for change. Unfortunately, over the past five years, this required the government to produce more than HK$30 billion worth of coins.
Our Solution
HEYCOINS is a chain kiosk that tackles the hassle and inconvenience created by the use of physical coins. HEYCOINS Kiosk collects coins from the public and then converts them into digital currency, including e-wallets recharge, transportation/cash cards top-up, e-cash coupons purchase and charitable donations.
HEYCOINS will bring direct economic benefits and positive social impacts by recycling coins and removing coins from unwanted circulation. Also, by controlling the return of the stored coins back into circulation, HEYCOINS will greatly reduce the massive cost of manufacturing coins for future use.
HEYCOINS is positioning itself to be the gateway to FinTech for the masses. Our B2B2C business model takes the advantage of coins for attracting people to continually use our product and service. We will accumulate HEYCOINS users, build brand trust and build greater acceptance of FinTech solutions like e-wallets/cross-border settlements.

Work, Sheet.
Upcycling,Minority Integration,Environmental Friendly, 2015
Web Site: http://worksheet.hk
Work,Sheet. aims to promote the concept of Permaculture and putting the whole system into daily life. We cooperate with St. James Settlement (NGO) and sheltered workshops to collect food waste with HK local features in the community. We use 100% biodegradable ingredients and sustainable procedures from start to end. We have also developed a new innovative Fiber-material, share profits from
the goods sold as a return to reward workers and introduced a whole system to serve the community.
After a series of experiments and testing, we successfully developed an efficient system for processing local food waste into commercially viable products (Fiber-Material: 2D.FiberSheet, 3D.FiberBlock). Our Fiber-Material can be used in industrial manufacturing as well as custom-made production. The material can be used as a semi-final material to produce daily products, range from large objects like furniture, lighting and installations, to small products like stationery, containers, utensils and any paper product. We specifically chose food waste that is rich in HK local characteristics, which made our Fiber material more representative of Hong Kong. At present stage we focus on 1. tea leaves from tea-houses; 2. fruit from local fruit markets; 3. plants from The Flower Market at
Prince Edward; 4. Chinese medicine herbs from Chinese pharmacies.
Besides the character of the material supplier, Work,Sheet. also builds social responsibility through educating the public on the concept of permaculture by holding workshops and exhibitions; as well as producing designer products and services, which will be targeted mainly at the corporate sector. With our current corporate work experience and up-coming projects, we have the confidence to launch our unique HK material to the global market in the near future.

Sticky Rice Love
Public Health, 2015
Web Site: https://www.stickyricelove.com/
STOP HIDING!
START TALKING!
How do you tackle a hidden problem? The problem is the sexual health of Hong Kong’s youth. After all, shouldn’t we all be concerned about the consequences of being ill informed? These range from unexpected pregnancies, sexually transmitted infections and discrimination against sexual minorities.
The current generation of young people have grown up with sexually explicit material being freely available on the Internet. In addition, the trend is that they are becoming sexually active at a younger age. So what are we to do?
Sticky Rice Love aims to develop a friendly community in Hong Kong. A community that is receptive to discussions on sexuality and then to empower young people with the knowledge to make responsible informed choices. Fortunately, Sticky Rice Love is gaining attention. Since our launch, we have received strong support – around 4,500 Facebook fans and around 20 reports in the media.
Our online platform has two main components: an online journal and an online forum for young people to ask questions anonymously. After we receive questions, our team of trained volunteers and sex therapists reply with practical answers. The topics we cover are sex and gender, how to accept oneself, communication and romance in relationships. In addition, we provide educational activities for schools, parents and the public. This online platform also allows businesses to advertise their products to the youth market and fees are charged for providing workshops.
Sticky Rice Love – we’re all about sex!

Giving elderly people and abandoned dogs a new lease on life
Senior CID equips Hong Kong’s elderly with pet sitting, training and grooming skills through working with abandoned dogs. Our programme empowers senior citizens to generate a stable income while helping numerous canine lives.
Our population is greying fast. By 2035, one in 3.2 people will be aged 65 or above. Currently, one third of the elderly live in poverty. Some of them are physically capable and should be given the chance to work. By matching their resources with the needs of abandoned dogs, Senior CID can solve three of society’s problems: 1) ageing population; 2) abandoned dogs; and 3) high demand for affordable pet services.
We collaborate with expert trainers who teach our elderly members to provide quality pet services. The elderly will learn to care for, train and groom through working with abandoned dogs at our partner shelter. They will keep the dogs healthy, happy and attractive, increasing their chances of finding a new home. Once the elderly complete their training, we will offer their services at below market prices. Our elderly will benefit from having a flexible, fun and rewarding work schedule. Pet owners can also enjoy cheaper services while knowing that their money spent are for the benefit of the elderly and abandoned dogs.
Our vision lies further. To broaden our network and impact in a sustainable model, experienced members will become trainers themselves to empower not only other elderly, but also other groups of people in need.
